The Bad...
Shiva, Destroyer of Worlds, The First hasn't been eating for over a week. He's become very pale and hangs out at the bottom of his tank. I have to move the tank to see if he's still kicking or not. He seems to swim a little sideways, almost like he had a stroke...do fish have strokes?
He's still hanging on for now. I cleaned his tank, and took the plant out of it so there wasn't anything impeding his swimming ability. I still feed him, but it seems like he's just waiting for the food to get water logged and sink.
I've moved him to a different spot in the house that is a bit darker. Today when I turned my light on, he got all swimmy for a moment, but he didn't seem to have the energy to reach the top of his tank.
Something tells me its just a stupid fish and I should just flush it, but its my fish. My first stupid little fish and I've grown rather attached to the little guy. I love him, even if he does swim sideways.
Which brings me to:
The Good...
Sunday syn74x read through the stoic act (I'm sure it was a pretty pathetic stoic act) and when I said, "I don't want another fish." She took that for, "Go get Jo another fish." So...I now have a new fish! He's dark blue, almost black in the body and lightens up towards the tail fins. He's feisty!
He does not, however, yet have a name. I had planned on Shiva the 2nd, but since Shiva the 1st isn't dead yet, it feels like I'm selling poor sideways swimming Shiva up the sewer system early by naming the new guy after him. Fred, George, and such names don't seem to fit. I think I'll stick with naming them after Gods, but which one? I am, open to suggestions. Suggestions? Comments?
I will post pics of the little guy soon. I have them, though it took me a while to get him still. As for Shiva, no pics of the once colorful little guy. He's turned white in too many places and I'd like to remember him on a good note.

| Coffee Service |
[05 Feb 2009|10:49am] |
So, I've been put in charge of getting a coffee service for 8 offices around the country. Perferrably one that will do things like clean the machines.
Anyone have any ideas?

| My Week |
[29 Jan 2009|08:49am] |
Monday - Check Craigslist.org for new job postings (I was spending about 10 minutes every morning doing this). - Find semi-interesting job posting. - Blink several times as I realize that this is a client of one of the attorneys I use to assist. - Shoot said attorney and the Head of Business Development an email letting them know I'm applying for a job at this company. - Send resume (BCC Attorney and HoBD) - Get a phone call from a representative of the company asking me to come in for an interview...Monday afternoon. (All of this happened in about 1/2 hour...these people work fast). - Interview -Work a bunch in between the chaos.
Tuesday - Work - Get job offer (For $2K a year more than their original "top salary range") - Have free dental appointment - Work some more. - Fret (its a super talent of mine).
Wednesday - Talk to the boss (who's been really supportive) - Accept job offer - Get told by the boss that my last "full time" day is Friday (He's going to allow me to work PT Nights/Weekends for a while as it'll help us both out.) - Tell the new company I can start on Monday.
More I'm still marveling at the speed of which this has all happened. It doesn't give me a ton of time to think about the change, but that is likely a very good thing. Today at lunch I will raid the Goodwill close to work for suits. This weekend I will go to Ross and/or thrift stores. I find that I generally like wearing suits to work if I'm in a corporate environment, simply because it is less articles of clothing I have to think about. And, amazingly enough, I occasionally run across suits that are odd enough that I actually like to wear them.
There was a side note, but its slipped my mind. Maybe after the coffee kicks in I will remember it. Maybe not.

| Job! |
[28 Jan 2009|10:15am] |
I have accepted a new job at a company called Idhasoft. They are a client of one of the attorneys I use to work for at Morris, Manning & Martin. Its not as much money as I was making there, but MUCH more money than I'm making now.
Back to the hour each way commute, but at current that seems to be the only negative.

[15 Jan 2009|01:20pm] |
For those that don't know, I got laid off a while back. It was a, "We really like the work you do, but you have no seniority" type of thing.
I'm currently employed, but I'm making less than 1/2 of what I was making. That said, if anyone knows anyone looking for a legal or admin assistant, please feel free to send them my way. I'm also willing to learn any number of skills needed if someone knows of something I might enjoy doing that doesn't fall under that line of work...and better yet, I pick up new skills very quickly.

I have been laying in bed for 2 hours and my feet are still icecubes. ICECUBES.
I'm under a sheet and 3 blankets. The rest of me is toasty...why, oh why not my feet?
Cold feet keep me up. Warm feet would bring sleep.
Want sleep!

| Shiva, The Destroyer, The First |
[16 Oct 2008|09:27am] |
I've had Shiva for 4 months as of today!
He seems to be happy, though not fat, which is likely a good thing. He was a little shaken up by the move the the 18th floor. The adjustment in temperature hasn't helped any (The attorney nearest me keeps this section of the building at somewhere around 68-70 degrees). However, this morning he had a new bubble nest, so I know he's not a Shivacycle. Its hard to destroy the world when you're cased in ice.
I tried getting a new picture of him, but he wouldn't hold still and my phone takes crap for pictures if there is any sort of movement involved. Thus, you'll have to settle for an older pic...slightly decorated.
My graphics skills are generally much better, but I only have the Paint program that is installed in Windows XP and not a lot of time. But at least he has cake... And a hat!

| Sewing, Comcast and Sleep |
[13 Oct 2008|09:11am] |
Friday night I was so tired I fell asleep in the comfy chair. The plan had been to stay up late, so I wasn't up at the crack of dawn on Saturday. Its totally psychological, but I like to kid myself about catching up on sleep during the weekends.
Comcast decided that drilling holes in the yard at 8AM on Saturday morning was a grand idea. syn74x and I, however, strongly disagree. We were woken up to them drilling large holes in the ground which shook the house a few times. I never managed to get quiet awake enough to be functionally productive on Saturday. I tried coffee. I tried napping (but failed to nap). I even tried reading. I daresay syn74x was less happy about it than I was, but she doesn't get nearly enough sleep these days anyway.
My weekend mostly consisted of sewing. I made a pair of pants according to the size chart listed on the pack of the pattern. Only, they were two inches too big in the waist and hips and I had a bit of a problem getting them to a point where the waist doesn't pucker. I still need to cut 2.5 inches off the top of the pants, as I'm apparently not just short, but pocket sized. Currently, they come up 2 inches past my belly button. That just won't do. I also need to hem them and add a zipper, but all this was Saturday AM, and I was less than pleased with being mobile, so I got fed up easy and put them aside for a bit.
Sunday I worked mostly on a paid sewing project for a friend. Since he lives on the other side of the country, I need to see if I can't commandeer someone around his size for a fitting. The shirt is suppose to be large and roomy, but it currently looks like it has a little too much room to me.
That was my weekend in a nutshell. Not as productive as it needed to be, but more productive than it could have been.
I'm looking forward to seeing "The Duchess" soon. I hope the movie is good, but even if its not, it should have good costumes, which entertains me just as much, and I still need to pick out one more costume for Dragon*Con next year.
The laptop of Doom has shipped. The backpack for it has been ordered. Neither have arrived yet, and I'm getting anxious.

[08 Oct 2008|12:38pm] |
I'd forgotten how cold it was up on the 18th floor. I don't care for the cold. Once I get cold, I tend to stay that way. I usually find myself hunched over for warmth which isn't good for my back. I typically plan for cold, but when you're seated in an office seat all day its hard to get up and move around.
Thus, I have dug out my Blanket of Warmth x5 with a specialization in conversion. See, it has these nifty snaps and a zipper and I can (fairly easily) turn it into a massive coat-esque-thingy.
Now where are those damned gloves? Yes, I keep gloves at my desk. I just can't find them right now.

| Dog Lovers of (and around) Atlanta... |
[07 Oct 2008|03:52pm] |
A lady at my work found a Pitbull "American Staffordshire Terrier" running around her neighborhood. He was friendly and social and playful with her two large dogs and herself. He did very well while she walked him around the neighborhood to try and find him a home.
However, she was unable to find him a home. She can not keep him, and I am in no position to adopt a new dog.
Is there anyone around who might be looking for a 3/5 year old Pitbull "American Staffordshire Terrier" who is very friendly?

| Health and Stuff |
[29 Sep 2008|04:11pm] |
Health My Primary Care Doctor thinks I have Bursitis in my hips. Its generally caused by over action of some kind and takes a bit to heal. I don't remember doing anything that would have injured me, but such is life. Information on it to be found here: www.bursitis.org
He pressed on a spot that I've long considered a pressure point. Apparently its not actually a pressure point at all, but it hurt like hell when he pushed on it, which seemed to confirm his suspicion. Now I know why people look at me like I'm crazy when I tell them that hurts.
I now have a perscription for something that was explained to me as Motrin x4. (Yes, I will look it up before I take it.) I'm suppose to take it for a week as recommended and then take it as needed. If that doesn't work he suggested a cortisone shot...in the hip. Which I'm told hurts like hell.
All in all, I'm glad to have a possible answer. Even if this doesn't work its a step forward, which I did not have previously. I like progression.
Laptop Button hit. Laptop paid in full. Now to wait on delivery.

In dedication to the Doom Mobile!
My car is definitely more zoomy than it was pre-tune-up. Now to get it detailed, and maybe a new air freshener.
If you can't tell, I've been having a deep, deep urge for change lately. I keep telling myself all the stress will eventually go away, but I'd much rather be someplace prettier than Atlanta while it does. I love the people here, but there's something about a good view that is relaxing. Fall in the mountains. The ocean. Something. Maybe I'll go visit my Dad next month.
The laptop purchase was put off for a day. Not long after I made the post about not selling the car, I was contacted about possibly selling my car. I didn't want to buy a laptop, only to have to buy a new car, but the Doom Mobile will not be sold (at least this week). My ability to switch gears and go after what could be a bargain, reminded me of my Grandfather, who frequently bargained for new(to them) cars. That man loved a good bargain hunt, and while I do not share his talent for bargaining, I love it too.

I had my car tuned up today. I will get to see how good it runs on the way home. Will also get to test out the gas mileage when if I ever find gas. Going to a place my step brother recommended in Downtown saved me a few hundred dollars.
I looked around at several cars and the option to buy (leasing is not an option for me) a new(er) one. I finally decided it'd just be best for me to drive my little car into the ground. Likely literally. There's no logical reason for me to buy a new car right now. I just like shiny, new and pretty stuff. That said, I keep seeing older Jeeps for sale. They make me drool a bit. Day dream a bit. Little Jo. Big Jeep. Huge tires and so much mud you can't tell the color of the vehicle. I've seen a few 1978(ish) Toyota Land Cruisers and some older model Land Rovers. They make me drool a lot. Smaller tires, but I couldn't deface one of those vehicles with tires as tall as I am. Yummy...
Then, I remember that I live in Atlanta, they are exceedingly impractical here, gas prices are the suck (not to mention we're in the midst of a consumer started gas crisis) and I drive a minimum of 30 miles a day. I can't afford two vehicles. I wouldn't want to drive it to my Dad's without a lot of work. I have many talents. Being a mechanic is not one of them (though I'm sure I could pick it up on something that isn't computerized). The list goes on.
So, anyway...I got a tune up today. New spark plugs. Cleaned filters. Oil Change. Timing belt is recommended in 15K miles. Next I get to have my car detailed. There are also several scratches on the passenger side where people have scratched my car. I can only assume it happened while they were getting out of theirs. I might (maybe) take it to get the scratches painted/buffed out if it wouldn't be terribly expensive.
The Doom Mobile lives to fight another day.
Now back to the laptop search...

And so did I.

| Quick Update |
[27 Aug 2008|01:00pm] |
Shiva, The Destroyer, The First is alive and well. I've kept the little beta office fish alive longer than I expected, and damn it, now I'm attached. We have no current bubble nests, and he's taking a great liking to the fake plant since a piece of it broke off last time I cleaned his tank. I'm a little worried he might be hiding, but we'll see. Dragon*Con will be the longest time he's not been in my care since getting him, but I have a 7 day feeder that will hopefully do the trick. Please, Shiva, don't die while I'm at Dragon*Con.
I've been reflective as of late. I've decided sharing my reflections is detrimental to society. Therefore, I made it a super secret private no-one-can-see-it-but-me-unless-its-hacked post.
*Got a great compliment on my sewing this weekend. *Dragon*Con in two days. *Costume's acquired from infiniti666's house. *Costume sewing done. (No accessories, but I'll live.) *Costume pinning and brainstorming done, thanks be to syn74x's help. Its not the over all look I was going after. I think it'll be hot when its all together, because she's a genius. None of my hair falls will work with it, but I have lots of hair, so I'll come up with something.

I just got an email from cerisehaze regarding a long time mutual friend (I daresay we'd both call him family, along with several other people on our FL) who lost a 19 year old working dog. My heart goes out to Karl. I'd never seen a more faithful dog. I only hope to be able to train mine half as well as he trained Cowboy.
However, it got me to thinking about the internet and how nifty it is because it allows us to stay in touch with and find long lost friends. For example, the only non-family member from high school I keep up with is [Unknown LJ tag]. I am in touch with him, thanks to the niftiness that is LJ. He happened to be on someone's LJ that I did not know in high school. We've run into each other in different social circles throughout the years and it has always been lovely. There are probably others from high school on Myspace of Facebook, but both of those are blocked at work, and since I do most of my blogging from work, I am not on them (though I've thought about changing that).
There are a number of people on my FL that are from the my coffee house days. I'd be happier if there were more, but I think the world would explode if we all got together again, so it'll keep for now. Though, a reunion tour would be nice...
Random, I know, but there you go.

| Shiva, the First |
[18 Aug 2008|10:20am] |
Has it really only been two months? Yes...yes it has. As of this past Saturday, I've managed to keep Shiva alive and well for two months now.
He's not as lively today as he has been in the past, but I need to change his water today. That usually gets him moving around some.
Other Random Tidbits: Attended syn74x's baby shower on Saturday and a good friend's birthday party Saturday night. The shower was cute and we had a lot of fun. Though I didn't stay late at the party, I met a lot of fun people.
Beyond that, my weekend was mentally and emotionally exhausting, and now I'm trying to recover while working a deadline at the office on about two hours of sleep. I'm trying to remain positive and keep telling myself that certain dreams I have are still exceedingly possible. The remaining positive part is easier said than done, but such is life.

Got up this morning. Showered. Brushed my teeth. Got dressed. Went downstairs to leave. All normal this far, right? syn74x had set the one cup coffee thingy up for me in a travel mug. I heated some water in the microwave to fix said coffee, and damned if I didn't spill the just nuked water on my fingers. Ouch.
Then, I get about half way to work before I realize that I did remember to pull my hair back, but I forgot to put anything in it to keep it from frizzing.
Thankfully, the work day has gone mostly well (this far) and no one seems to have noticed that I have a rats nest on top of my head.
Shiva, The Destroyer, The First: I've almost had Shiva for two months now (on the 16th). I still say a little, "Please don't die" prayer every time I leave him for a weekend. I've stopped wondering if I'm feeding him too little food. I currently need to clean his water, but since I cut back on the food I give him, it has definitely stayed cleaner. Who ever knew a fish could be such good company? :)
Other Randomness: Blue now has a gentle leader. For you non-doggie types, its a training collar that goes over the nose. The theory being that a dog (much like a horse) will follow their head. The gentle leader makes my life much easier when walking both him and Halley (who has had one for quiet some time).
My work place is amazing. Good job, decent pay, great benefits. Two of the three attorneys I work for are really awesome. I am, however, unchallenged most days. I'm trying to find a way to change that. I'll still have to do the mundane things like filing, creating labels and that sort of thing, but I also want to think. Think, think, think.
